Published by under Internet

PC World NZ has the details (via Public Address | Hard News) on the pricing for individual DRM-free tracks from Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Turns out NZ’ers will be paying $2.49 per track, which is a 39% premium over the DRM-crippled tracks that currently sell for $1.79. This is also 9% more than US and […]

Anybody want a Joost invite?

Published by under Internet

Not sure if anyone’s interested, but drop me a line if you want a Joost invite. I haven’t been too impressed with the service so far. They have regionalised the content (which really annoys me,) the quality of the video isn’t that great, and it chews up a lot of bandwidth too.

Trademe member listings in Yahoo! Pipes

Published by under Internet

MiramarMike started work on getting Trademe’s member listings as an RSS feed in Yahoo! Pipes after Rowan’s post about Trademe and APIs. He laid down the challenge to improve on the solution, so I managed to get some more information into the description field of the feed. Here’s the RSS feed for Movieshack’s current listings. […]

Rowan Simpson on Trademe and APIs

Published by under Internet

Rowan Simpson from Trademe continues the discussion about why Trademe doesn’t have an API. As I mentioned in his original post, I personally don’t have a need for an API but what I would love to see is RSS feeds throughout the site. Trademe already uses an RSS feed for the latest Trademe site announcements. […]

There is still a GUI, and you can run several apps such as Notepad, Task Manager, Regedit, which are probably the three most useful GUI apps I […]

Longhorn testing round 1

Published by under Infrastructure

Longhorn 1 – Stuart 0 First round of Longhorn didn’t go well, but I’ve only got myself to blame. I installed a Standard edition of Longhorn into VMware Server which all went fine. Then I jumped straight into the new Server Manger, and went a bit crazy and selected a whole bunch of roles at […]

Windows Server 2008

Published by under Infrastructure

Most people are expecting Longhorn to eventually become officially known as Windows Server 2008, but it looks like Microsoft have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag by posting a link to the “Windows Server 2008 Reviewers Guide” on the WinHEC press site. Eagle-eyed Mary Jo Foley picked up on it and grabbed a […]

PABX for my home office?

Published by under General

Sounds a bit over the top for my one-man company, but a PABX could prove to be useful for my home office. Fortunately there is a freely available open-source product called Asterix out there which I have been semi-fol owing for the last year. Recently I’ve read a bit about Trixbox which is built upon […]

Microsoft in defensive mode

Published by under Infrastructure

Big news this week was that Microsoft have had to drop postpone some key features from their new virtualisation software currently in development. Mike Neill, GM of virtualisation strategy went on the defensive with a lengthy blog post detailing all of the cool things about Microsoft’s new virtualisation platform, codenamed Viridian. But if you kept […]
