Site updates

Published by under General

Just a few site updates… I’ve started putting all my photos back on Flickr which has been made much easier due to Windows Live Photo Gallery providing support for publishing direct to Flickr, including sets, tags, and descriptions. So I’ve re-enabled the FAlbum plugin which displays all my Flickr photos on this site: http://stuart.amanzi.co.nz/photos I’ve […]

More paid parental leave is a good thing – even for lawyers

Published by under General

The usually sensible David Farrar, is suggesting that lawyers and other high-earning couples should not be entitled to as much paid parental leave as those who earn less than them. Targeted support is one of those idealistic things that look good on paper but are usually far from fair when implemented. How do you target […]

Google Indexing Speed

Published by under Internet

I’ve been noticing this a lot more recently – Google seems to be indexing web pages in near-realtime. I posted a blog entry at about quarter past two on Windows Script Host 5.7, and less than 45 minutes later that post showed in Google’s results for “Windows Script Host 5.7” This is impressive when you […]

Gadgets, Games and Geeks

Haven’t been blogging much recently, as you can tell by the lack of posts. I’d like to say that I’ve been too busy (I have) but the amount of time I’ve been spending on Facebook says otherwise. Anyway, I’m heading along to the Gadgets, Games and Geeks event hosted by Unlimited Potential (UP) tomorrow evening […]

Take your dog for a walk

Published by under General

Somebody searched Google for “double dog treadmill” and found my blog as the number one search result. The post that gets me into the search results was titled: “Height of Laziness” and was linking to a Gizmodo article. So hopefully whoever found my site might consider actually taking their dogs for a real walk – […]

Wellington bloggers meetup

Published by under General

As Wanda Martha just mentioned, last night we had the first meetup of the Wellington Bloggers Facebook group (or the catchy ‘WBFG‘ for short) at the Southern Cross bar. It was great fun and quite surreal meeting bloggers in real life for the first time – especially as we already knew so too much about […]

Career Advice

The Dilbert Blog: Career Advice No, this isn’t some funny Dilbert cartoon, this is Scott Adams giving some great advice on how to be successful. If you want an average successful life, it doesn’t take much planning. Just stay out of trouble, go to school, and apply for jobs you might like. But if you […]

New WordPress plugin

Published by under Internet

I’ve been creating a bunch of WordPress plugins recently. They are really easy to make and the documentation is great. I don’t really know much about PHP but it has the same structure as the way I write VBscript, i.e. write a bunch of functions, then call them with parameters. Most of the plugins I’ve […]
