Seems like lots of users had problems with iTunes 7 so it’s good to see Apple release an update so soon. Thanks to Neowin for the heads-up.

Is it just me, or is this post intentionally naive? Jeff Jones claims that Windows Server 2003 has less critical updates than an Ubuntu 6.06 machine. But if you dig a bit deeper, it appears that most of the updates that have been provided by Ubuntu are for 3rd party software products. Microsoft doesn’t provide any updates for 3rd party software so I think this is a bit unfair. It’s basically comparing Windows Server 2003 to: Ubuntu, AND the entire suite of software that is available for Ubuntu.
Any thoughts?

Regular visitors here would have noticed that the site has been down for the last few days and has also suffered from intermittent delays over the last few weeks. Well, Telstra have finally admitted there is a problem and hopefully it will be sorted out for good soon!

I’ve been using Live Writer for the last couple of weeks and I have to say that it is by far the best desktop blogging tool available today. I had tried most of the others, but none come even close to this. I’m usually quite critical of the Windows MSN Live platform as I think it’s over-hyped, but this tool is definitely worth checking out.
Make sure you grab some essential plugins too. The first two plugins I installed were: “Insert Flickr Image” and, “Insert Tags“. I’ve now found a couple of other interesting ones which allow me to blog directly from FeedDemon and Firefox.

UPDATE: Craig finally got the matter resolved with Flight Centre and is happy with the results. Read more here for details.
The NZ blogosphere may not be as powerful as in America or Europe, but there’s a good number of people blogging about the story of Craig being ripped off by Flight Centre (and then being called a liar just to add insult to the injury!) In brief, Craig was told over the phone that some flight tickets he was looking to purchase had an indefinite return date. He didn’t think that sounded right, so he double-checked and the staff at Flight Centre confirmed it to be true. So he bought the tickets only to find out (too late) that they expired after a year. Now Flight Centre are denying that they told him the tickets were indefinite and now also accusing him of lying!
Hopefully people will read Craig’s story and make sure they have written confirmation of the details before paying for tickets. And perhaps if you read the story you may also consider not dealing with Flight Centre in the first place, as their customer service (full details in the original blog post) have been appalling!
I booked my tickets for my recent trip to London with Zuji and have nothing but praise for them.

As if they weren’t having enough problems as it was, but Sony have now delayed the release of the Playstation 3 by almost half a year to all countries that use the PAL system! The console was due to be launched in Europe in November this year, but they have had to delay it until March next year! America and Japan will still get the console in November as planned but Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and Australisa (and NZ) will have to wait another 5 months before getting their hands on the new console.
Microsoft must be so pleased with this news – I bet they never thought that they would have so much of a head start with the Xbox 360. Could this be the final nail in the coffin for Sony? Even I have started to consider the possibility of purchasing an Xbox – and I’ve always been a loyal PS2 fan.
Looks like Sony’s desperation to win the next high definition optical disc war is causing all the problems. The reason for the delay is a production issue with the blue laser diodes which are required for the Blu-ray drives. If Sony hadn’t been so determined to include the Blu-ray drive in the PS3 we would all probably have one already, and at half the price that’s expected to come with the high-end PS3.
Is Sony willing to sacrifice the Playstation 3 in the hope of defeating rival HD-DVD…?

For the first half of Rockstar Supernova, I was convinced that Dilana was going to win and that there was no else who even came close to her. BUT – I think Toby has really been rocking it lately and his performance tonight was the best of the night! He had the whole crowd singing along to his original song by the second verse – that’s impressive.
Dilana screwed up by bagging on her fellow contestants, but I thought that she had redeemed herself and was still in the game. Her recent performances, though, have been good but not great, and I thought that her original was average. So I can’t see her going all the way any more.

I recently subscribed to the TechNet and MSDN blogs feeds. These two feeds keep you up to date with every blog that’s hosted by both sites. There’s a bit of information overload in doing this, but I’ve already found some good posts which means that I have another couple of feeds to subscribe to.
