In a previous post I mentioned that Wagamamas will opening soon in Wellington, just next door to Loaded Hog,. That post has been getting a lot of hits through the Google – seems like I’m not the only one excited about the opening. Turns out the Wellingtonista crew nominated Wagamamas in their 2AWA (2nd Annual Wellingtonista Awards) in the "Most Needed" category.
Reading through the comments though, it’s obvious that not everyone "gets" Wagamama. A lot of people complain about the odd seating arrangement, or the bland decor. I love it though – it’s a bit different, and I don’t see the decor as bland – more minimalist. If you’ve ever been to a Muji store in London, then you’ll notice the similarities between the minimalist design there and in Wagamamas.
I experienced a bit of a surreal moment this morning walking to work…
Lost in some classic trance from my iPod shuffle I suddenly realized that I was walking across a new bridge which I hadn’t seen before. It’s part of the new development that’s going up next to the Loaded Hog and the bridge must have been completed in the last week while I was off work.
On the ground floor of the new building that’s also being completed, there’s a sign for a new restaurant that’s opening soon. The restaurant in question just happens to be my favourite from London days – Wagamama!
I’ve (finally) been sorting through all my photos from the trip to Europe and I found this photo which I had forgotten about. I took it with my cameraphone in a department store in Rotterdam.
It’s a toy Email set. You need to get the mail routed, and delivered to the right post offce making sure you defend yourself against the evil network viruses.
This would make a great geek-gift for any network admin!
I bought my fourth iPod this week, completing the family of iPods that we have. This one is a 1GB iPod Shuffle, which joins the classic shaped, 60GB iPod with Video, 4GB iPod Nano (I bought this one for Deb), and the beautiful 8GB iPod Touch. Hopefully I can extend the family again next year if/when the iPhone becomes available here.
The shuffle is an amazingly simple mp3 player and just wonderfully designed. Everything about it is amazing – the price, the packaging, the out of box experience… it all works so well. Even the headphones that come with it sound surprisingly great with rich, deep sound that lets you appreciate the entire range.
When I connected it to iTunes for the first time, I remembered how iTunes displays the actual colour of the iPod attached in the main window:
When I pointed out how cool that was to Deb, she just shrugged her shoulders and asked what the point of that was..? I guess there’s no real reason to do it, but it just makes the whole experience that little bit better.
There is another meetup for Wellington bloggers on Thursday, 29th (tomorrow) at the Southern Cross Bar on Abel Smith Street.
We’ve got the Cocaine Alley booked out for us, which is the area on the right when you walk in with two big tables and long benches. There’s a group and event posted on Facebook, but this isn’t exclusive for people on Facebook – if you’ve got a blog and you live in Wellington, then pop in to the Southern Cross bar tomorrow from 6pm.
Update: Just thought I’d compare the Zoomin map to Google:
I’ve updated my About page with all of the contact details and websites I could think of off the top of my head. I want to get this into a microformat at some point.
I’ve implemented the AJAX version of Google’s Custom Search engine for this site which allows you to search the site from the widget in the top left corner of this page. This is all done using a nifty overlay so you don’t have to refresh the page to do the search.
Blogtown NZ has been updated to the latest version to fix several security bugs and to add new features. One of the new features is native tagging support although this needs to be built into the themes to see the tags.
