We’re hearing from all over that a bad McAfee for Windows XP update is causing computers worldwide to shut down. Apparently DAT update 5958 deletes the svchost.exe file, which then triggers a false-positive in McAfee itself and sets off a chain of uncontrolled restarts and loss of networking functionality.

Arista’s new device is designed to send data between thousands of servers, for customers who demand extremely high computing performance. It has 384 ports–think of them like pipes for data–that connect to racks that each may have a stack of 48 servers. The ports send data at 10 gigabits per second, the current standard for high-end switching devices. A comparable Cisco device is about twice the size of the Arista device, draws 10 times the power and offers only 64 ports, the startup says. And it lists for about $10,000 per port, Bechtolsheim says, compared with a little above $1,000 per port for the new Arista 7500.
