TV3 anchor lets rip online at coverage

Published by under link

Link: TV3 anchor lets rip online at coverage Typical sensationalist reporting by the NZ Herald. Mike McRoberts made a single comment via Twitter which read: actually what it reflects is a poor decision by 3 not to go with continuous coverage throughout the day. No lead in. He hardly “let rip” as the Herald reported.

iPhone 3G launch date, NZ pricing and specifications

Published by under General

Steve Jobs’s WWDC keynote finished a couple of hours ago, and now the Apple NZ website and store has been updated with the details of the new iPhone 3G. The technical specs are what were expected with perhaps some small disappointment that there was no 802.11n networking included, and also no increase in storage to […]

How much will the iPhone cost in NZ

Published by under General

That’s one of the big questions on everyone’s mind at the moment, probably second only to: "when is the exact release date?" Up until recently, the cost of Apple’s products in NZ were expensive compared to prices in other countries. At the time, all Apple sales were handled by local distributor Renaissance, and prices seemed […]

My phone is better than yours

Published by under General

That’s right – unless you too are the proud owner of a Nokia N95, then I can absolutely say that my phone is better than yours. I bought the N95 last week and it’s by far the best phone I’ve ever owned. Check out some of the features: 5MP camera (with Carl Zeiss optics) VGA […]

Google Maps localised for NZ – but aerial photos still outdated

Published by under General

I’m a little underwhelmed by the announcement that Google have released a localised version of Google Maps for NZ. Sure, it’s nice to be able to type a “.co.nz” address to get to the site, and maybe it will be helpful to look for a plumber in Wellington – but when are they going to […]

New waterfront development

Published by under General

I experienced a bit of a surreal moment this morning walking to work… Lost in some classic trance from my iPod shuffle I suddenly realized that I was walking across a new bridge which I hadn’t seen before. It’s part of the new development that’s going up next to the Loaded Hog and the bridge […]

More paid parental leave is a good thing – even for lawyers

Published by under General

The usually sensible David Farrar, is suggesting that lawyers and other high-earning couples should not be entitled to as much paid parental leave as those who earn less than them. Targeted support is one of those idealistic things that look good on paper but are usually far from fair when implemented. How do you target […]

When does my evaluation copy of Windows Server expire?

Published by under Infrastructure

I’ve been using a lot of evaluation software at home recently to build up a virtual lab that I’ll use for testing and demos. I needed to know when my eval copies of Windows Server 2003 were due to expire but couldn’t figure it out without having to trawl through Google Groups first. Turns out […]

Schmap just got a little bit better

Published by under Internet

Schmap the online travel-guide website just got a little better… That’s because they’ve included two of my photos in their guide to the ‘Western Suburbs’ of Wellington. I’m not too sure that Hawkins Hill should be classified as being part of the Western Suburbs but it does border on the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary so perhaps […]
